The silver medal, which extends the free gift cycle of the Czech Mint with Christmas motifs, recalls the superstition of the golden pig.

The Christian Christmas follows the ancient celebration of the winter solstice. The rebirth of the sun was a significant moment for our ancient ancestors, and pagans from all corners of Europe associated the life-giving star with the golden pig. The mythical boar with its glowing bristles, which brought abundance and prosperity, was the companion of a number of gods - the Roman Saturn, the Viking Freya and the Slavic Dazbog - and pagans believed that by eating pork they would gain its power. However, in the Middle Ages, with the expansion of Christianity, everything changed. The animal idol was replaced by the newborn baby Jesus, and instead of feasting, people had to observe the fast. Yet the old rituals have been preserved and we still tell the story of the golden pig to this day. Superstition has it that he will be seen as a reward by those who can keep from eating all Christmas Eve. In a time when we are surrounded by sweets and other delicacies, it is a difficult task, but it makes a rich festive dinner taste all the better…

The obverse side of the medal, which is the work of medal maker Eva Prousková, DiS., presents a golden pig on a snowflake. The Christmas creature in silver relief stands out thanks to selective gold plating. The reverse side then bears another snowflake into which a sweet candy is incorporated.

An integral part of the issue is the Czech gift wrapping, which can be inscribed with a dedication.
