Mythical Creatures
The eighth gold coin of the Czech Mint from the Mythical Creatures collector's series features a centaur.
Centaurs - half human and half horse – they are trapped between human and animal nature. On the one hand, they are famous as animal symbols of masculinity, strength and passion. Irritable creatures, especially under the influence of wine, did not hesitate to use violence. On the other hand, they excelled in intelligence and sophistication. The wisest of the centaurs was Cheirón, who became the teacher of the most famous Greek heroes - Jason, Achilles and Heracles. He taught his students physical fitness, archery, javelin throwing, wrestling, running and horseback riding, but also modesty, herbalism, healing or music and singing.
The medal maker Mária Filová, DiS., placed a sturdy centaur with a drawn bow on the reverse side of the coin and accompanied it with the English inscription CENTAUR. It is not without interest that the coin does not have a classic coin frame, however, the relief is surrounded by decorative Hellenistic ornaments that permeate the entire collection. As the coins of the Czech Mint are issued with a foreign licence of the island of Niue, the obverse sides bear the name and profile of the monarch Elizabeth II, the nominal value of 5 DOLLARS (NZD) and the year of issue 2021.
Remember that you can store your complete 12-piece collection of mythical creatures into a spectacular collector's album that you can also find in the offer of the Czech Mint.
