Product description
The Czech Mint's gold miniature coin set in a replica of a historical postcard is dedicated to another landmark – Sychrov Castle.
Since the 19th century, the North Bohemian Sychrov Chateau has served as the residence of the noble Rohan family, who came from France. This fact was strongly reflected in the shape of the charming complex, which is one of the most important buildings in the French Romantic Neo-Gothic style. The chateau has hosted many great personalities - King Charles X of France, King William I of Prussia, Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria and Czech composers Josef Suk and Antonín Dvořák. These distinguished visitors could admire the decorations, which were the masterpieces of Czech carvers, the sumptuous furnishings and the vast English park. "The extensive reconstruction of the Baroque chateau into a Romantic Gothic mansion was reflected in the form of a collector's postcard, which served as a template for the coin packaging. The views of the castle and its surroundings are complemented by a shot of the carving factory, which contributed significantly to the reconstruction of the interior of the nobleman's residence," says postcard expert Pavel Vursta.
The reverse side of the coin, which is the work of medal maker MgA. Tereza Eisnerová, is dominated by the eastern wing of the castle with a double staircase. The composition is completed by the inscription SYCHROV. As the coins of the Czech Mint are issued with the licence of a foreign issuer, which is the island of Niue, the obverse side bears its necessary elements - the national emblem, the nominal value of 2 DOLLARS (NZD) and the year of issue 2023.
The issue, which will delight numismatists and philocartists alike, is an original and affordable collector's piece as well as an attractive regional gift.
