The five-year cycle of the Czech National Bank, which is dedicated to the urban conservation areas of the Czech Republic, presents its ninth issue. The gold coin with a nominal value of 5,000 CZK minted in quality standard commemorates the beauty of Štramberk.

The mountain town of Štramberk is situated on the steep slopes of several hills in the Beskydy foothills. The local town conservation area that was declared in 1969 , is varied and contrasting. It  boasts not only the town centre with its colourful Baroque townhouses, the neo-Renaissance fountain and the Baroque Church of St. John of Nepomuk, but also the terraced suburbs. This is due to the narrow winding streets lined with log houses on high stone plinths from the 18th and 19th centuries. It is no wonder that this picturesque place full of fairy-tale houses is nicknamed the Moravian Bethlehem. Štramberk Castle is situated above all this. Its 40-metre high Gothic tower, called Trúba, serves as a lookout tower and offers a first-class view of the landscape. The unique atmosphere is further enhanced by the smell of Štramberk ears - a traditional gingerbread delicacy.

In the art competition of the Czech National Bank won the design by medal maker Veronika Prokopová, DiS. The expert committee was impressed by the imaginative collage of the most important Štramberk monuments on the reverse side of the coin - in the foreground you will find the Neo-Renaissance fountain, in the middle the Church of St. John of Nepomuk and the house with a Neo-Baroque gable, and in the background the ruins of Štramberk Castle. The obverse side of the coin is dominated by a mural from the interior of Jaroňek's shelter - a tourist hostel at the foot of Trúba. Heraldic animals of the Czech Republic complete the composition.
